A lighting design metric that looks at the fraction of of light (lumens) at the point of use (visual task) compared to the lumens generated by the light sources in the whole space or area.  Application efficiency thus takes into account light losses in the luminaire as well as light losses in the space or area as the light is distributed in the lighting application.
