System Flexibility (Controls)

The preservation of lighting and daylighting systems throughout their useful life is an important measure of sustainability. Therefore, advanced designs are expected to provide control packages that do not just meet applicable codes but exceed those codes and drive technology innovation and building integration. Here are design recommendations for combining systems that have useful flexibility.

Flexibility Recommendations
The ability to rewire or reconfigure an office building as easily as a living room is often viewed as ideal. Furthermore, an advanced perspective recognizes that the “one-size-fits-all” approach to lighting can be very wasteful.

If electric light levels can be varied, there is a significant potential for energy savings as well as other beneficial effects.
